On Thursday, August 17th 2006, Hermansville had the pleasure of a visit from our governor, Jennifer Granholm; For a change the weather matched UP hospitality as the members of VVA Post 571 in conjunction with the museum board and staff hosted the event.
Governor Granholm toured the museum, which she described as a fitting tribute to those soldiers who served in the Vietnam War. She helped dedicate an apple tree by tying on two ribbon bouquets, one yellow, for those deployed troops and one, red, white and blue for those serving in the States. Following that, she held an impromptu town meeting, taking questions from anyone who asked on a variety of subjects.
Everyone there was impressed by her candor, her genuine concern for the people of our state, and the depth of her feeling for those soldiers from Michigan who have given their lives in the Middle East.
